Working with your body, rather than forcing it to change
Myofascial Bodywork is a gentle, responsive approach to working with patterns of tension, restriction and persistent pain.
Rather than trying to force a release, we listen to what your body is communicating and explore what happens when there is enough time, space and support for something to change.
What is Myofascial Bodywork?
Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and connects muscles, organs and other structures throughout the body.
Myofascial Bodywork uses slow, considered touch to work with areas of tension, restriction and altered movement.
The intention isn’t to push through resistance or make something release. Instead, we work with your body and its responses, allowing change to happen at a pace that feels manageable.
You may notice changes in sensation, breathing, movement or ease as we work.
A responsive approach
No two bodies are the same, and there is no set sequence to follow. We’ll pay attention to what you’re experiencing and how your body responds, adapting the work as we go.
You might notice an area of tension becoming softer. You might become aware of a sensation you hadn’t noticed before. You might simply feel more comfortable or at ease in your body.
There is no particular response you need to have. Your body’s response guides the work.
More than working on a muscle
Alongside my training and experience in bodywork, I have developed a deeper understanding of persistent pain, stress and the nervous system. This means I can consider not only where you feel discomfort, but also the wider context in which your body is responding.
For some people, Myofascial Bodywork is exactly what they are looking for. For others, physical tension and persistent pain may be connected with stress, overwhelm or experiences held within the nervous system. Where appropriate, bodywork can sit alongside the wider somatic and trauma-informed work I offer.
What happens in a session?
We’ll begin by talking about what you’re experiencing and what you’d like support with. I’ll then work with your body through gentle, skilled touch, paying attention to areas of tension, restriction and how your body responds.
Your feedback is an important part of the process. You don’t need to tolerate pain or push through discomfort. We work collaboratively, and you remain in control throughout.
Who might find this helpful?
Myofascial Bodywork may be supportive if you experience:
- muscle tension or tightness
- restricted movement
- areas of recurring tension
- a sense of feeling physically “stuck”
- tension that seems to increase during stressful periods
- a desire for a gentle, body-based approach
You don’t need to understand why your body feels the way it does before you begin.
We can start with what you’re noticing now
Bodywork within Freedom Within
Bodywork is where my professional journey began, and it remains an important foundation of my practice.
Over time, my work has expanded to include Embodied Processing and nervous-system-informed approaches. You don’t need to choose between them. The work can remain focused on the body, or, where appropriate, become part of a wider therapeutic process.
If you’re unsure what kind of support would be most helpful, that’s okay.
We can explore that together.
Important
Persistent or complex symptoms should be medically assessed. Myofascial Bodywork is complementary support and is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or urgent medical care.
