Healing from the Inside Out – Through Your Nervous System
“What is somatic therapy, exactly?”
Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to healing that helps you reconnect to the felt sense of your body, gently working with stored tension, pain, emotion, and trauma that may be shaping how you feel, move, and live.
While traditional therapy often focuses on thoughts and behaviour, somatic therapy listens first to the body’s language:
Muscle tension. Shallow breath. Inner bracing. That sense of being constantly “on.”
Or perhaps… feeling nothing at all.
When we tune in to these subtle signals – rather than overriding them – healing can begin.
“Why the nervous system?”
Because your nervous system is the control centre of how you feel and function.
It decides when to activate or shut down, when to hold tension, when to numb out, and when to let go.
Sometimes, past stress or trauma causes the system to get “stuck” in survival – even when the threat is long gone.
This can show up as:
- Ongoing pain with no medical explanation
- Fatigue, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm
- Feeling frozen, disconnected or burnt out
Somatic therapy helps to complete the body’s stress responses, release protective holding patterns, and restore safety – from the inside out.
“What does a session look like?”
Every session is tailored to you, but may include:
- Body based awareness: learning to notice subtle sensations, tension, or signals without judgment
- Breath and grounding practices: to bring safety and regulation
- Gentle movement or touch (if in-person): supporting the body’s natural unwinding
- Psychoeducation: so you understand why you feel the way you do
- Co regulation: feeling safe in connection with another, which supports deeper healing
There is no pushing or forcing.
Everything we do is guided by your body’s pace, readiness, and consent.
“How can this help me?”
You might experience:
- Reduction in chronic pain or flare-ups
- A deeper sense of calm and resilience
- Feeling more grounded and present in daily life
- Greater emotional capacity and self-trust
- Relief from long-held patterns of tension or bracing
- A new relationship with your body, based on compassion, not control
This is work that meets you where you are – not where you “should” be.
Whether you feel constantly overwhelmed… or you’ve gone numb
Whether you’re struggling with physical pain… or emotional exhaustion
Whether you’ve done so much work already… or are just beginning
Somatic therapy offers a gentle, respectful way in, one that trusts your body’s wisdom and honours your pace.
You may of heard the phrase ‘you need to feel it to heal it’. This is true, however the nuance is that ‘feeling it’ – without risk of overwhelm or dissociation – requires capacity and a resourced nervous system. I help my clients grow in capacity by connecting with how it feels to feel safe, connected and present. Only then can we safely start to turn towards discomfort in the body, get curious about sensation and hold space for your process and emotion.

Hello Natasha,
Thank you so much for your presentation on AVAIYA where you spoke on “The compulsion to escape”.
I could feel you inside of me as you described how to be curious, compassionate and present by noticing what’s happening within our bodies at any moment. Your tonality made a huge impact in my ability to connect with you.
At the moment I am training as a nervous system regulation coach. I am really interested in chronic pain somatic practices for business clients and wonder if you could share some insights as well as the ebook you shared on AVAIYA – I applied the coupon code but realised I can’t download it.
